ART IN THE CITY EXHIBITION (Overview by Holly Gwenter) As you walk into the room you are greeted by a collective of creatives. Some are smiling, some having a conversation and others look deep in thought. Perhaps they're pondering on a new idea? To your right are sandy deserts with skulls and an already sold piece of Arabic calligraphy, from artist Aliyah Akram. Mental health are themes that runs out her Art. Going across the wall to the left are circle canvases with sunset acrylic tree designs. Just like the artists name, her work is Serene and involves flowers and nature. Carrying on to the left are illustration pieces in frames of 'imaginary windows' and quirky biro creatures by Alan Porter.  On the very end are black and white photographs of homeless people with their name and a bit about them, take...

STROLLING THROUGH THE ERAS

Image
Here is a big poster by  Frédéric Art  which represents in a comic way a surreal meet up among characters from different eras and centuries. Go through the scenes and spot the path he creates through the ages! Let’s learn about that directly by  Frédéric Art ’s words… “What can I tell about this drawing? First of all, what pushed me to draw this topic? I am keen on studying History and so I wanted to apply this knowledge to my cartoon, being inspired by the ‘chaotic’ cartoon strips by  Guillermo Mordillo , an amazing Argentinian cartoonist. In fact, the scene in this cartoon is very chaotic as well... I mean, it doesn’t follow a chronological order. I preferred this kind of approach, because it allowed me to create a drawing with a very funny and humorous effect, as the viewer tries to linger and analyse every single character and situation that I have delineated. This artwork surely summarises my artistic style that is to create art that draws the v...

What lies 'Under the Surface'?

Image
Welcome to The Arches Project, where you'll discover what lies 'Under the Surface' by the Thirteen. Because today 'We are 13'. It’s time to report some figures from ‘ Under the Surface ’, an exhibition of mixed media realised by Birmingham Metropolitan College students , which took place in The Arches Project’s huge spaces on 30 June – 3 July. 13 Let’s start from ‘Thirteen’, the name of the students group who created the artwork.
